As expected, Q1 2016 was a prolific for InsurTech startups with 45 deals generating $650m in funding. The majority of these deals came from the USA, with Oscar representing 60% of the funds raised. This is 6x more funding that Q1 2011 and nearly 4x more than Q1 2015.
53% of these funds were allocated to early stage, seed level companies.
In Q1’11, fewer than 10 insurance tech startups raised a financing round. Fast forward to Q1’16 and insurance tech notched its strongest quarter ever on the deal front with more than 45 deals totaling $650M in funding, according to CB Insights data.
